VOTE for Santa Cruz Skate Shop and Santa Cruz Surf Shop
Hey folks, in case you were wondering SC is going against the grain. Let me explain. Just like you we don’t want to look like every tom dick and harry wearing the same cookie cutter logo, you want to be unique…so does SC…nothing worse than seeing someone else wearing exactly what you are…see the trend? I am sure you do. And just like you (the customer) we are price driven too…is it getting clearer?? Sooo with that being said SC is only making 48 of these color way beanies right now regular $19.95 SC price $14.95…just like the SC Giants World Championship hat, once there gone you may not see them for a while. These babies land Monday 2/7/2011…buy yours now before they are dust in the wind. This run represents the Giants, Radiers and Sharks…triple threat. As usual a percentage of all sales go to Grind Out Hunger and The Core.
SC family members Darshan Gooch and DK got to hang out at on the North Shore Body Glove House in December 2010. Check out the insane footage of Cheyne Magnusson, Alex Gray, Matt Pagan, Darshan Gooch, Anthony Walsh and top 44 surfer Gabe Kling on The North Shore during a pumping December2010…enjoy! The North Shore is a religous experience…for surfers it’s the mecca, the place of worship from sunrise to sunset.
Backdoor Hawaii
Photographers punch in at dawn and begin the surrepitous job of capturing the magic of the breaks like Log Cabins, Rocky Point, Gas Chambers, Backdoor and Pipeline. The surfers push one another in crowded conditions amongst heaving barrels and walled up ramps. The caliber of surfing on the North Shore is like watching an all star baseball game…out of control. I was invited to stay a week on the North Shore in the Body Glove house and it couldn’t have been more magical.
Darshan Gooch and DK
Darshan and I took off from San Francisco on an 8:15 a.m. AA39 flight…that ended up losing cabin pressure, circling SFO to burn fuel and then eventually heading off to LAX to switch planes. Needless to say we could have flown to South Africa after that one considering we didn’t get to Hawaii until 10:30pm California time. (video below is when plane captain advises that we are burning fuel to land and not to worry fire trucks are standard…RIGHT!)
The aloha was on from the moment Darshan Gooch and I landed where Matt Walls and Matt “Chuy” Chernega scooped us up and ambled to The Body Glove House at Sunset Beach. Scott Daley was the host and knew the drill well, the fridge was always full and the daily dinners with all 14 of us were five star.
DK and Scott Daley
We arrived to a houseful, pro surfer Cheyne Magnusson, Body Glove VP of Marketing Scott Daley, photogs Mike Balzer, Scott Smith and Brandon Bowden, Body Glove retailers Andrew “adonis” Funk from from Surfers Supplies in New Jersey, Sean Weiman from Liquid Surf in Carmel, Derek from Surfride in SoCal, Body Glove Director of Sales Matt Patterson, NorCal Body Glove rep Keith Terriberry and Jenna Meistrel was the blogger extraordinaire.
House drop ins by pro surfers Alex Grey, Anthony Walsh, Holly Beck, Gabe Kling, Matt Pagan, Chandler Parr, Greg Browning and Transworld Surf’s Aaron Checkwood were frequent. The whole house and Body Glove team went to the Drop Zone Fiji premier at Banzai Sushi with Transworld Surf crew it was a monsoon rain which in Hawaii is regarded as a blessing.

Surf sessions ranged from Kamasugis, Gas Chambers, Rocky Rights, Log Cabins, V-Land, Sunset Point, Backyards, Backdoor and Laniakea’s. The first day we landed the North Shore sprung to life with most breaks operating at full tilt. Lani’s that 1st day was solid double overhead, Kamasugis was checking in with 10′ faces on average and a couple of 12′ to 15′ faces on sets. We sat and watched Log Cabins and Rocky Point going mental.

Daily Starbuck runs at Foodland with Balzer, Patterson, Weiman, Kailee and Terriberry where we would play spot the pro to see who would be buying the coffee.
DK, Weiman, Terriberry and Kailee we are the Starbucks addicts...
Walks to Teds Bakery allowed goodies (macadamia pineappleupside down pie). Hot tubs were critical after two or three surfs in a day.

Retail meetings were going down around team, marketing, contests and other insane possibilities for customers to engage the Body Glove brand. Matt Patterson along with Matt Walls (lots of Matt’s work at Body Glove) drove the meeting while us retailers spoke our mind and expressed our deepest desires to bring Body Glove in full force to our customers back home.

The board selection offered up any range you needed, everything from a 7’2 bonzer to a 6’0 chip there was a board that could get the job done.
Whats your poison...North Shore 2010
My last surf session of the trip was equally as moving, overhead Rocky Rights with some incredible surfing partners, Occy, Bede Durbidge, Cheyne Magnusson, Gabe Kling, Carissa Moore, Tom Carrol, Matt Pagan, Matt “Chuy” Chernega, Keith Terriberry, Dan Malloy, Holly Beck, Anthony Walsh, Darshan Gooch and photos being shot by Mike Balzer from land, Scott Smith and Brandon Bowden from the water.
North Shore 2010 Body Glove House at Sunset Beach
After all was said and done, The North Shore delivered solid surf, amazing housemates and aloha beyond belief. Body Glove…well done…thank you from Santa Cruz Surf Shop and myself …I will never forget this trip.
Derek Hynd is a surf legend and an inspirational person. Back in 1996 Derek came through with Tom Curren, Pancho Sullivan and Frankie Oberholzer to hang out in Santa Cruz for about a week. We all lived on top of Santa Cruz Surf Shop back then in a big white spanish style building…those were the days! The surf was going off and it was definitely trippy to paddle out with that crew at Pleasure Point. Derek Hynd needed to write the profiles for the top 44 that year so he locked himself in our offices and busted it out in three days. The surf went off all week and those days Santa Cruz was a little more sleepy. If we did that now, people would be hanging out everyday. Below is some footy of Derek surfing a finless board at Supertubes…pass it on and take note…surfing is always progressing.
