One thing we have to appreciate are the Veterans. Coming from a family where my dad was in the Navy, my Father in Law was in the Marines and where my uncle gave his life for what he believed to be a free country and the right to enjoy that freedom. I have numerous friends that are serving and have served, I cannot appreciate the Veterans enough for their service. My good buddy and SC Family Adam “Flex” Flechsig hit me up on Facebook asking if I was going to plan anything for Veterans Day as a recognition…and it got me thinking…SC can do something different this Veterans Day. What I came up with was this:

All day on 11-11-11 a % of our sales are going to go to the Wounded Warrior Project per Adam’s request. In addition ANY VETERAN can come into the store and get COST on anything in the shop. All you have to do is tell us that you are a Veteran…From 4 to 7 I am inviting All Veterans to come down to the store and hang out and I am also asking everyone to come in and thank these men and women who put their lives on the line for your freedoms, so we can surf, skate and sell items freely.

Veterans please come and have the people of Santa Cruz County recognize your service and appreciate you for the dedication you have shown to this great county .

If you cannot come down to the store, then please Thank A Veteran for their service, buy them a cup of coffee, buy them breakfast or just shake their hand look them in the eye and genuinely thank them not just today but everyday. If you happen to want to show your respect visit http://www.mcvvm.org and make the trip.

Veterans Day 11-11-11

Flex, you probably thought I had forgotten about all of this, I was just waiting for the 4th of July weekend to pay my respects brother. Thank you for what you do and I am glad that you were rocking that SC Hat and we met by chance. Happy 4th of July and welcome to the SC Family.

You might remember a while back, we screen captured a person at a Washington Nationals vs. World Champion SF Giants wearing an SC Brand Hat. Well, little did we know where that would lead us, within 24 hours of that notice people were lighting up the Santa Cruz Skate and Surf Shop Facebook page with one name “Flex”. Come to find out, “Flex” is from Santa Cruz and is stationed in Washington D.C. (read his self written and unedited bio below) and never misses a SF Giants visit. Happened to be that Flex was going to be in Santa Cruz within a couple of weeks, so we set up a meeting.

SF Giants Fear the Beard rocking SC Hat!

Being from a military family where my dad served in Vietnam in the Navy, my father in law was a career Marine, my uncle Danny Joe was a Marine killed in Vietnam and I am named after him, it was an honor to chat with Adam. Being the polite person he is, gifts were brought and exchanged and I felt like I had known him forever.

Flex and DK bonding....churrrrrr....

I mentioned to him, that we sponsor people for different things; surfing, skating, music, radio personalities etc..and I was moved to offer that he become part of our sponsored family. The man defends our country and oversees the final resting place of our fallen soldiers..he more than qualifies.

Adam "Flex" Flechsig is second man in from front.

Enjoy his self written and unedited bio and please welcome Adam “Flex” Flechsig to the SC Family…Happy 4th of July and be thankful to guys like Adam “Flex” Flechsig for your freedom!

Here goes nothing!

Adam Flechsig
aka Flex, SGT.

Been serving in the US Army Infantry since Sept. 2008. Currently stationed in Washington D.C. with 3rd. US INF Regiment “The Old Guard” Where I serve as a FPC (Firing Party Commander) for one of 8 Firing Parties in the the Regiment. We conduct the ceremonial burials (retired or active) in Arlington National Cemetery year round. I’m honored for what we do for the families, but I really enjoy being out in the field doing Infantry tactics and shooting.

I’ve been married since April 2010 to Natalia Flechsig (Jessen), best thing in my life! She made a HUGE commitment to marry into the military and EVEN BIGGER commitment to enlist into the Army Reserves for Civil Affairs. We’ve known each other since our days at Harbor High School where she already had the hots for me when she was a Senior and I was a Freshman (no big deal). Natalia I love you and the best is yet to come.

Not a fan of the east coast. I always miss my al pastor burrito from Moreno’s. Chillin’ on the cliff’s watching the fog roll in after a warm summer day. Long run’s on east cliff or west cliff. Eddie Money concert’s on free Friday’s at the Board Walk. Warm days down at 3rd ave posted in the sand. The people of Santa Cruz and their mellowness.

I made the choice to enlist into the Army and then the Infantry to challenge myself like nothing else would in this World. To me this is the best job out there and I would not have it any other way. I love my country and my hometown and this is my way of saying thanks to both. And much love and respect to DK and Santa Cruz Skate and Surf Shop!!!!

NEVER FORGET ANDRES H. PEREZ!
