Dave a great board builder (and an even better guy) just dropped of a fresh batch with more to come. Dave will be doing custom orders through the shop as well. SCSS’s selection of new and used surfboards is at 90+ boards and growing.

The North Pacific is lighting up and Tuesday looks like the day…where are you going to surf? FYI check your leash and make sure its ready for the big surf, not a great idea to lose your board on a day like these.

It’s been about 13 years since the members of local punk rock band Fury 66 have played a live show together. Tonight they are reuniting one last time to bring Santa Cruz County the punk show of the year. Benefiting local charity Grind Out Hunger and Multiple Sclerosis Research, this show is going to rock the walls of the Catalyst for 2 great causes. We have been informed that online tickets are SOLD OUT, but there will be a LIMITED amount of tickets available at the door.

We had the honor of joining the band during a couple of their practices at The Compound Recording Studio in Ben Lomond. We were able to sit down with the band and chat about their past memories as well as their feelings about the reunion show.

It has been a hectic week leading up to this show. Promotion, interviews, articles, photos…we even made a trip to Oakland to pick up  custom made skate decks for the show. These decks are Fury 66/Jimbo Phillips collaboration decks, with proceeds from the sales benefiting Grind Out Hunger. The lovely Jessica McDermott of Staircase tattoo on Front Street offered FREE Fury 66 Shield tattoos to the general public yesterday. We took a trip over there with Fury 66 guitarist, Jeff Frady, got tattooed, snapped some pics and hung out for a bit. Thanks to Jessica for doing that! We made sure she got a Fury 66 skate deck.

As the hours pass and it gets closer and closer to show time emotions are running high. Jeff Frady contacted us this morning expressing his feelings as he counts down the minutes to show time, “This shit is so touching. WAY more than I though it was gonna be. It’s UNREAL how many people are reaching out to me/us via Facebook, my phone is BLOWING UP!”
This show is a big deal to the members of Fury 66 as well as their long time fans. “It’s like a Santa Cruz Reunion” the band explained in our interview with them. They cant wait to see everyone together in one place, one last time. Whether you are a die hard Fury fan or not, this show is NOT to be missed. Its going to be the talk of the town for years to come.

Arcade games!? What? I thought this was a Skate/Surf website…
Well, we’ve get 2 pieces of news for you all. 1. What is happening NOW  2. What will be happening in the FUTURE. Yes, We can predict the future.

Lets start with what is going down right now at the Santa Cruz Skate and Surf Shop…
First off, we got our 720 arcade game running again. This game has been broken for a long while, but our buddy Mike Milligan, owner of DCT Amusements, helped us get it running again. After chatting with Mike for a bit he offered to put a Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga arcade game in our shop. The game is now up and running alongside the 720 and is a hit! Come on in and see for yourself! Maybe even get a high score!

Now lets get to the future… After seeing that our new Ms. Pac-Man/Galaga game was such a success we brainstormed and talked to Mike. We came to the conclusion that we needed more classic arcade games in our shop. We now are in the process of turning a section of the shop into a vintage arcade with games as well as pin ball machines! We will be sure to let you all know when it it up and running, for now come on in and enjoy playing 720, Ms. Pac-Man, and Galaga.

Oh and did we mention we have a pool table, ping pong table, foosball table and tech deck park? Ha!

Ms. Pac-Man is an arcade video game produced by Midway as an unauthorized sequel to Pac-Man. It was released in North America in 1981 and became one of the most popular video games of all time,

Galaga is a fixed shooter arcade game developed and published by Namco in Japan and published by Midway in North America in 1981.

 720 is a 1986 skateboarding arcade game by Atari Games. It is one of the first extreme sports video games, and has a unique timed structure that requires the player score points in order to keep the game going.

Kyle Buthman has just released the unofficial teaser trailer for Get Rad 2…check it out. SC Family members will have a well rounded showing. Got to see it on the big screen during “Ruffo” screening…its gonna be mental! Stay tuned….
